Desideria Collection x Alex & Mike, A long time in the making
I've always been fascinated by the tradition and ceremonial aspects of a wedding. Everything has always seemed so cookie cutter and expected to me, and that’s just not who I am at all. I’ve always stood out from the crowd, and I’ve always loved people who do, which raises the question – why in the world aren’t there more options for people who are different? After finally realizing my purpose, I set out to create a space for those people. I wanted to make ceremonial pieces for people who may not fit the more traditional mold or people who just want something a little different. I started with nontraditional, custom ladies’ engagement rings with the goal in mind to open these unique ideas up to as many people as possible in the future.
The Desideria Collection x Alex & Mike line is an extension of this concept. The idea was inspired by a close friend of mine, Kyle. Kyle is one of the most gorgeous, creative, and talented guys you will ever meet, and he has never been afraid to be himself. Once I started in engagement rings, I absolutely could not wait until Kyle and his partner, Dennis, decided to tie the knot. As they got more serious and I got to know Dennis a little better, I realized that I wouldn’t be able to make Kyle’s ring after all – Dennis’ brother is a jeweler! I love Dennis and his brother, and of COURSE Kyle’s future brother in law should make the ring, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bummed.
When Dennis popped the question, I met them after to celebrate. My stunning, creative, colorful soul of a friend Kyle was sporting a brand-new men’s diamond wedding band. At the time, his ring was one of the most creative options on the market, and it was gorgeous, but I couldn’t help but wonder – we have a strong, vibrant LGBTQ community in Philadelphia, so why are the engagement options for men confined to a classic wedding band style? I knew exactly what I needed to do, and I started working on unique and exciting men’s engagement ring designs the next morning.
Upon meeting Alex & Mike, I absolutely loved their creativity and style. I watched their work ethic prove itself time and time again as they seamlessly juggled full-time jobs with what seemed like another full-time job of blogging and influencing. Suddenly it hit me – they are the perfect couple to work with on this project. They’re creative, they value quality and luxury over quantity and they’re not afraid to be themselves. I approached them about the line during SoulCycle, and they enthusiastically accepted, full of incredible ideas from day one including adding a lifestyle line of fine jewelry for men to wear every day.
After hours of meetings, designing, fabricating, stone setting, polishing & finishing our designs, we’re finally ready to release our line of gorgeous, unique rings to the public that creates an opportunity for men to express themselves with fine jewelry in a way that’s never been done before.
Some of my Indiana friends might be wondering, who are Alex & Mike?
"[We're] lifestyle bloggers living in Philadelphia. We started our blog as a creative outlet. We were bored and frustrated in our everyday lives and needed a change. After brainstorming ideas one night while relaxing on the couch (possibly with pizza + rosé), Alex & Mike was born. We love fashion, skincare, home decor, and food. All of this has come together to create a lifestyle destination meant to inspire not influence. We have a true passion for sharing our love of life with others. We hope our corner of the internet will make you smile and inspire you to live your best life — whatever that means to you!"
Why do I love them?
Alex & Mike truly inspire me daily. Their tenacity to go after their goals is unmatched - they literally never stop working. They're focused and driven all while being compassionate and present with their family and friends. We really understand each other's desire for personal growth and enrichment, and I have learned a lot from them in the short time we've known each other.
